Internships and Fieldwork

What are internships and practicums?

They are academic activities aimed at contributing to the professional, social, and community development of undergraduate students, through the experience and application of knowledge acquired during their professional training.

How do I know if I can apply for internships and practicums?

To apply as a visiting student at the Institute of Food Science and Technology (ICTA) of the National University of Colombia, the applicant must be enrolled as a regular student at a higher education institution in Colombia or abroad.

How do I apply for my internship or practicum at ICTA?

You should start by requesting an invitation letter from an ICTA faculty member. This letter confirms that they will act as your mentor during your academic stay at the institute and must be submitted along with other requirements.

Requirements

  • Letter of introduction from the home university (on letterhead and/or with seal).
  • Letter of motivation.
  • Official transcript of grades.
  • Copy of passport (for foreign students) or copy of citizenship ID (for Colombian students).
  • Financial support letter indicating the ability to financially support the exchange.
  • The financial support letter certifies that students have sufficient financial resources to cover expenses during their mobility. If the candidate receives a scholarship, they must attach a certificate indicating that they are a beneficiary or recipient.
  • Invitation letter from a professor (tutor) at our Institute.

Complete the online registration form and attach all documents.

How long will it take to know if my application has been accepted?

Response time varies depending on the evaluation of the application. The acceptance letter as a visiting student will be sent by email to the applicant and their home university. The original document will be sent to the home university's postal address if requested. Upon arrival in Colombia, all international visiting students must have international health insurance covering medical and hospital expenses, accidents, and life insurance. Incoming international mobility students must pay the National University of Colombia's personal accident policy and comply with guidelines established by the National Welfare Directorate. Colombian visiting students must be affiliated with an EPS (Health Promoting Entity).
